I love reading novels, and acquiring information, even if it is from dry textbooks. I feel like the best essay I have ever written was one of my three on my AP (Advanced Placement) European Exam last year. Specifically, it was the essay discussing the War of Three Henrys'. Since my mind is very fact based, I excel in classes like math and history, which require rote memorization.
The War of Three Henrys' essay choice was like a dream come true. I had just been in the library for the two blocks prior to the test (one of those blocks just happened to have been taught by you, Ms. Diana). I had done a quick scan of my notes, and I this topic I just had happened to go through in more depth. Thankfully all of the facts about the war stuck, and my essay really included everything. When I was done with the Euro test last year I felt an overall confidence, because I felt as though all my studying had actually paid off (perhaps why I got a 5). I remember the other essays' I wrote for this test, not only because I was confident, but also felt pride in my work.
The War of Three Henrys' had been one of my favorite topics during my tenth grade year, so the fact that it was one of my essay choices, made me ecstatic. This essay by far is my all time favorite, because I got to show off something that I love and was happy with the result. My first AP exam day became a day to remember, not only because of the built up stress, but also due to the fact that I got the oppurtunity to show off all the hard work I had put in.
Writing Essays in English Class is much more difficult for me than writing them for History Class. I like being able to rattle off facts and dates, and it comes much more naturally for me to memorize these types of facts, then to go in blind. Going in blind, like for prose or poetry essays, is very challenging since everything has to be analyzed right then and there. I like being able to go in with a plethora of facts, and then narrow down what I already previously studied to fit the proposed task. I enjoy creative writing, but history is really the subject that I master essays in. The War of Three Henrys' essay exemplified my love of history, by letting me show what straight facts I had memorized, while still writing with the eloquent vocabulary that I had learned over the years in English classes prior to the exam.
